Pastor John ClementPastors John and Karen first knew that the Lord was calling them to pastor in Western Colorado in the mid 1980’s. At that time God planted a seed in their hearts that with time blossomed into a vision for strong, healthy local churches in the Rocky Mountain Region. For a number of years, as they served in their home church, The Believer’s Center of Albuquerque, they nurtured that vision in prayer. Then, in the Fall of 1994, while camping and mountain biking near Crested Butte, the Lord spoke clearly to them about moving to Gunnison to start RMCM. Pastor John says, “I will never forget sitting outside at night, looking up at the stars above the hulk of Whetstone Mountain, and knowing the deep love that God has for the people of this valley and countless others like it.” After two years of prayer and planning, John resigned his position as Assistant Pastor at BCA, and with their pastor’s blessing, John and Karen made the move to Gunnison.
RMCM became a reality, meeting first in the conference room of a local motel, then at the Gunnison High School, next sharing space with another local church. Finally, in the Spring of 2008, RMCM moved to its current location on 7 acres 1/4 mile north of Gunnison. From 13 people meeting at a motel, to a a full featured modern church, it has been an interesting ride. The one thing that has never changed along the way, is the faithfulness of God.
Rocky Mountain Christian Ministries is not a place, but a group of wonderful people that love the Lord, love one another, and love His work in the earth. RMCM is a church where real people worship together, laugh together, cry together, work hard together, and play together. We are committed to helping one another live the abundant life that Jesus came to give us. We know that we have only scratched the surface of all that God intends to do through this local church, but we are on our way.
God has called RMCM as a church family to help believers grow to maturity in Christ and to find God’s plan for their life. We consider it a privilege to serve this community with the Gospel and are excited for you to join us in this exciting endeavor.
