More About Our. . .
About our Services
The goal in every meeting at Rocky Mountain Christian Ministries is to provide the best possible opportunity for people of all ages, backgrounds, and stages of life, to make a genuine connection with God the Father through Jesus Christ. For this reason we believe in meeting on weekends for corporate worship, prayer, study of God’s Word, and fellowship. These meetings are for everyone, but they are primarily designed to help Christians grow toward maturity in Christ. Our services are times when the family of God can gather around the dinner table, exalt the Lord, eat a good nutritious spiritual meal in God’s Word, and share the joys and challenges of being Christians in a friendly environment. Our weekend services provide Christians with the tools they need to live out biblical principles in their everyday lives throughout the week.
The Bible in our Services
At Rocky Mountain Christian Ministries we strongly emphasize the importance of God’s Word in the Christian Life. We believe that the Bible is the inspired Word of God, and that it should be the believer’s primary source of authority for faith, and practical Christian living. We do not view the Bible as a book of rules, but a book of life. We study the Bible because we love God and want to know Him better. The Bible is God’s revelation of Himself to mankind, and that the Word of God, as revealed to the human heart by the Holy Spirit, has the power to change lives. Every believer is encouraged to prayerfully read, meditate, and study the Bible for themselves, and we strive to give them the tools to do it more effectively.
Worship in our Services
You will find that the Christians at Rocky Mountain Christian Ministries are passionate about developing a strong and dynamic worship life. Praise and worship is a time for celebrating our salvation, exalting God, and an intimate interaction between the believer and their Heavenly Father. The scriptures reveal that our God is a good and loving Father who desires intimacy with His children. A healthy and active worship life makes healthy and vital Christians. Worship is not an event, but a heart attitude, and a life-style. Our desire is to provide the best possible opportunity for believers to experience the life of Christ in worship each time we gather.
Prayer in Our Services
We believe that every Christian can have a free flowing and conversational relationship with Jesus Christ. Furthermore, as Christians, we have been invited to participate with God in His work on earth (1 Corinthians 1:9). One vital aspect of that participation is prayer. Through strategic intercession, led by the Holy Spirit, believers partner with God in the expansion of His kingdom on earth. We believe in both individual and corporate prayer. For this reason, believers are encouraged to cultivate an active and vital prayer life, develop a life-style of prayer and fasting and to participate in such activities as prayer walking and city wide prayer initiatives.
Fellowship in Our Services
We believe that strong Christian relationships make for strong Christian lives. Jesus established His church as a group of interconnected individuals. The Bible teaches that God Himself sets believers in the body where it pleases Him (1 Corinthians 12:18). The scripture also strongly emphasizes the idea that we grow when we stay planted in the house of God (Psalm 92:15, John 15). Part of the reason for this is that the life and the love of God actually flows into and out of our lives through these divinely ordained relationships.
As we interact with other believers, and work together to accomplish the Great Commission, we have opportunity after opportunity to walk in the fruit of the Spirit, or to walk in the flesh. We are challenged by one another, upheld in tough times by one another, and we find constant opportunity to love and forgive one another. All of this spells spiritual growth.
Furthermore, we believe that local churches have specific callings that are accomplished not so much by professional ministers, but as believers, set in place by God, express their various gifts in harmony with one another. And finally, we believe that we should all have a few close and trusted friends in our lives that will hold us accountable for our actions. This provides safety for us, and protects our witness.
For all of these reasons, we encourage believers to actively build strong Christian friendships into their lives. We provide opportunities for you to meet and get to know other believers at every service.
What We Believe
God is bigger and better and closer than we can imagine
The Bible is God’s perfect guidebook for living
Jesus is God showing Himself to us
All men need to be reconciled to God
New life begins when that relationship with God is established by faith
The Holy Spirit is here and helping us every day
The church has been given a mandate to reach and train men
Jesus is coming again
There is one God, the Creator and Ruler of the universe. He has eternally existed as one in three co-equal persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
See Genesis 1:1, 26 & 27; Genesis 3:22; Psalm 90:2; Matthew 28:19; 1 Peter 1:2
The Bible is God’s word to all men. It was written by human authors, under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. It is the supreme source of truth for Christian living. The Scripture is the infallible and authoritative word of God.
See 2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:20-21; 2 Timothy 1:13; Psalm 119:105-160
Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He is co-equal with the Father. Born of a virgin, Jesus lived a sinless human life and offered himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all men by dying on a cross. He arose from the dead after three days to demonstrate his power over sin and death. He then ascended to Heaven’s glory where he waits to return to the earth.
See Matthew 1:22-23; Isaiah 9:6; John 1:1-5; John 14:10-30; Hebrews 4:14-15; 1 Corinthians 15:3-4; Romans 1:3-4; Acts 1:9-11; 1 Timothy 6:14-15; Titus 2:13
Man is made in the spiritual image of God. He is the supreme object of God’s creation. Although man has tremendous potential for good, he is marred by an attitude of independence from and disobedience toward God called “sin”. Sin separates man from God.
See Genesis 1:27; Psalm 8:3-6; Isaiah 53:6a; Romans 3:23; Isaiah 59:1-2
Salvation is a gift from God to man. Man can never forgive his own sin by self-improvement or good works. Only by trusting in Jesus Christ can man be redeemed from sin’s mastery and penalty. Eternal life begins the moment one receives Jesus Christ into his life by faith.
See Romans 6:23; Ephesians 2:8-9; John 14:6; John 1:12; Titus 3:5; Galatians 3:26; Romans 5:1
The Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit is equal with the Father and the Son as God. He is present in the world to make men aware of their need for Jesus Christ. He also lives in the believer to lead, to guide, to direct and to baptize them with power for living and for their witness to others in our world. We firmly believe in the present day supernatural ministry and manifestations of the Holy Spirit.
See 2 Corinthians 3:17; John 16:7-13; John 14:16-17; Acts 1:8; 1 Corinthians 2:12-14; Ephesians 1:13; Galatians 5:25; Ephesians 5:18
The church is the body and representation of Christ and his kingdom in the earth. As such we are to faithfully give ourselves to pursuing our relationship with him and with those in his family in local gatherings. We are also commissioned to continually reach out to those who have not yet discovered new life in Christ and then to serve and mentor them as they grow.
See 1 Corinthians 12:12-14 & 18-20; Galatians 6:2; Ephesians 1:22-23; Ephesians 3:14-15; Ephesians 5:30; Matthew 28:18-20
Jesus waits for a word from the Father to come, first, for his church and then to establish his reign on the earth. The first will occur at some time in the future known only by the Father – the second after a period of tribulation and great tribulation on the earth.
See 2 Thessalonians 2:1-12; 1 Thessalonians 5:1-11
The mission of Rocky Mountain Christian Ministries is to help people know God in an intimate and practical way, to fully enjoy the richness of their salvation, be genuinely transformed by His Word and Spirit, and to bring Christ’s influence into the world in which they live.
Biblical Authority And Its Application
We are committed to the clear and accurate communication of God’s Word in a way that ministers grace and urges obedience.
See 2 Timothy 3:16-17; James 1:22
Life Giving Relationships
We believe that God’s life flows through relationships—first relationship with God Himself, and then with one another. We are therefore committed to honoring and encouraging those relationships that God establishes within the body of Christ for our benefit.
See Ephesians 4:11-16
The Power of God’s Presence
We are committed to the continuation of the rich heritage of the manifestations of the Holy Spirit enjoyed by the church since its beginning.
See Ephesians 5:18; 1 Corinthians 12:31a; Romans 8:12-14
We believe that one of the primary missions of the church of Jesus Christ on earth is to release and enforce the victory of the cross through Spirit led prayer. We are therefore committed to saturating our lives, ministries, and activities in prayer, and interceding for others.
See Matthew 7:7-11; James 5:13-18
The Personal Fulfillment of the Great Commission
We are committed to the worldwide expansion of the Kingdom of God. To that end, we believe that every believer should be committed to winning the lost and making disciples of Jesus Christ.
See Matthew 28:18-20
We are committed to investing our prayer and resources in fruitful mission works as led by the Holy Spirit, and the developing and deploying of missions teams.
See Matthew 28:18-20
We are committed to living out the dynamic spirit of the cross through selfless, sacrificial, and liberal acts of giving. We believe that financial support of God’s Kingdom is both an act of worship, and a Christian responsibility.
See 2 Corinthians 8:7-15; 2 Corinthians 9:6-13; Philippians 4:10-19
The Diversity of Spiritual Gifting Within the Church, and Cooperation With One Another
We believe that God has uniquely gifted each believer to serve both the Body of Christ and the world with the love of Christ. We are committed to recognizing and giving place to the giftings in one another, and to faithfully serving one another with the gifts we have been given.
See Romans 12:4-11; 1 Peter 4:8-11
The RMCM Story
“I will never forget sitting outside at night, looking up at the stars above the hulk of Whetstone Mountain, and knowing the deep love that God has for the people of this valley.” Pastor John Clement
Pastors John and Karen first knew that the Lord was calling them to pastor in Western Colorado in the mid 1980’s. At that time God planted a seed in their hearts that with time blossomed into a vision for strong, healthy local churches in the Rocky Mountain Region. For a number of years, as they served in their home church, The Believer’s Center of Albuquerque, they nurtured that vision in prayer. Then, in the Fall of 1994, while camping and mountain biking near Crested Butte, the Lord spoke clearly to them about moving to Gunnison to start RMCM. Pastor John says, “I will never forget sitting outside at night, looking up at the stars above the hulk of Whetstone Mountain, and knowing the deep love that God has for the people of this valley and countless others like it.” After two years of prayer and planning, John resigned his position as Assistant Pastor at BCA, and with their pastor’s blessing, John and Karen made the move to Gunnison.
RMCM became a reality, meeting first in the conference room of a local motel, then at the Gunnison High School, next sharing space with another local church. Finally, in the Spring of 2008, RMCM moved to its current location on 7 acres 1/4 mile north of Gunnison. From 13 people meeting at a motel, to a a full featured modern church, it has been an interesting ride. The one thing that has never changed along the way, is the faithfulness of God.
Rocky Mountain Christian Ministries is not a place, but a group of wonderful people that love the Lord, love one another, and love His work in the earth. RMCM is a church where real people worship together, laugh together, cry together, work hard together, and play together. We are committed to helping one another live the abundant life that Jesus came to give us. We know that we have only scratched the surface of all that God intends to do through this local church, but we are on our way.
God has called RMCM as a church family to help believers grow to maturity in Christ and to find God’s plan for their life. We consider it a privilege to serve this community with the Gospel and are excited for you to join us in this exciting endeavor.
Pastors John & Karen Clement
In 1981 my wife, Karen, and I began attending a fast growing church in Albuquerque, New Mexico called the Believers Center of Albuquerque. This church quickly became our church home, and the spiritual nurturing that we received there became the foundation of our future lives and ministry.
In 1985 we moved back to my home state of Colorado. We lived and attended church in Durango for 3 1/2 years. It was during these years that the Lord began to speak to our hearts about full time ministry. It was also in these years that the Lord put a vision in our hearts to plant a church in one of the smaller mountain communities on Colorado’s western slope. At that time, spirit-filled churches were nearly non-existent in this region.
In 1988 the Lord spoke clearly to us about moving back to Albuquerque, finishing Bible College, and going to work at Believers Center full time. It was a confusing moment in my life, because I felt sure that in some way we were supposed to bring the message of the Gospel to Western Colorado.
The Lord assured us that in order to accomplish the work that He had for us, we must first return to BCA. So we moved back, and for the next eight years I had the privilege of serving on the staff of, what I believe to be, one of the finest churches in America.
Then, in 1994, the Lord in no uncertain terms called us to start a church in Gunnison, Colorado. In June of 1996, after two years of prayer and preparation, and with our pastor’s blessing, we relocated again to Gunnison to start Rocky Mountain Christian Ministries. Since then, we have watched in awe as the Lord has established a vital, Sprit-filled church in this small community. We now have the privilege of pastoring a wonderful group of people with a worldwide vision for ministry. We believe that God has established Rocky Mountain Christian Ministries to be a spiritual resource center for the Gunnison Valley, the Western Slope of Colorado, and the entire Rocky Mountain region. We also believe that our mission extends to the ends of the Earth.
God is moving today in the smaller communities of America building strong “life-giving” churches like this one that are equipping people to take the Gospel to the farthest corners of the Earth. Our mission is to impact the world with the Gospel of Jesus Christ by helping people establish a personal and intimate relationship with Him.
We believe that God has a plan and a purpose for every person that can only be discovered and fulfilled by living each day in close fellowship with God through Jesus Christ.
We believe that every Christian has been specifically gifted and anointed by God to fulfill a specific role in the church of Jesus Christ, and minister life to a lost and hurting world.
We believe that, as the Pastors of this church, it is our job to help believers grow to maturity in Christ through encouraging them to respond to the work of the Holy Spirit and the Word of God in their lives.
Our deepest desire is to see each individual discover and fulfill their God-given destiny in Christ. We consider it a privilege to serve this community with the Gospel and we hope that you will join us in this exciting endeavor.
